The latest software for the Dare is version 6.  And yet we still see members reporting that they have version 3 on their phones.  So you should check your software to make sure you have the latest version.  The updates fix a lot of problems that existed in prior versions.

From the home menu select Main Menu ► Settings and Tools ► Phone Info ► SW/HW Version

The SWVersion line will tell you want version you have
VX970V03
VX970V05
VX970V06

The newest version is 06

You can get your phone updated at your local Verizon store.  Call first to make sure they have the latest version 6 on their system.  The update may take about 30 minutes, longer if the store is busy.  There is no charge to get the update.

And in case you were wondering, NO you cannot update your phone using the Software Update option under Phone Info.  Verizon has not yet implemented that feature.

I assume updating your firmware WILL NOT get rid of anything/interrupt anything on your phone?

No 100% guarantee and that is because of the possibility regardless of the extremely low probability of operator error.

Uh, vx10kv11 is the Voyager firmware. Either you own a voyager or you have the wrong firmware on your phone.

If you loaded up your Dare via BitPim - you should remove it before taking your Dare to Verizon.  Verizon can refuse to update your Firmware Version if they suspect any "mod's" outside standard Verizon implementation.

Well yes, I was wondering that.   Huh?

Yes, I still do have version 3!  I hate having old versions of software running on my hardware!  Must fix soon!  (i'm annoyed about the blizzard outside keeping me from doing it today!)

Anyone know what exactly it fixes or improves?  I've had a few problems with random shutoffs, and my yahoo messenger will regularly disconnect but still appear to be logged on... and albums of mp3s are handled really strangely.  Other than those things, I am not else what sort of minor fixes will benefit me.

Ok - answered my own question sort of:

http://www.lg-dare.com/index.php?topic=7449.0

There is the 25 page thread about the topic.  I hate when people post questions without looking very hard for the answers... DOH!
