If you have updated your phone to version 5, please report any new bugs you have discovered.  I will compile a list and provide it to Verizon.  Please note that I will only include in the list bugs which are reported by multiple members.  This should eliminate most hoax reports.

===============================================

1.  If you have texting set to "WORD" mode, and if you accidentally or purposely turn the phone into landscape mode and then turn it back, it goes into "Abc" mode.  (This bug has been confirmed by multiple members on HOFO)

I know we have a large membership.  For a phone that has not been on the marketplace for a long period of time, our membership is huge.  We can if we use it correctly harness the power of those numbers in dealings with Verizon and LG.

Granted some members do not at present own a Dare but I would put that perhaps 10 to 20 percent.

If we have then 4000 Dare owners at a conservative $80.00 per month we are talking big money.  In business money talks bs walks...

If we could deal with Verizon letting them know that this is not Da Dare Dude or Love the Dare or FA1SGL but is 4000 fee paying people saying "Get off the damn pot and fix these issues" we could get something done.

There is a lot about the Dare that I simply "tolerate".  If it is in area that I don't personally find critical I either ignore it or develop a "works for me' workaround.

I have 611'd for issues that did not affect me and my use of the phone but did it to add one more voice...the message receipt issue being an example.

We have to stop seeing ourselves as indiviudals but as a lobby as a voter bloc.  Hell, it works quite well for the NRA.

Right now we are being treated like mushrooms...you have heard the story...kept in the dark and fed b.s....

Enough is enough.

When Monday ends if I have not received a reply from Verizon concerning this update, I will go to their site and search for and find the corporate center of operations.

I have done it in the past on other issues (Cattleman's Restaurant and Hilton Hotels)...

I have a few ideas cooking and will post when it gets closer to the dinner bell of ideas rings...

they have you for the remainder of your contract. 2 years or  a little less now depending on when you got your dare. there is no need for them (in there eyes) to worry about our issues with the phone. they know all they have to do is keep pumping out cool looking phones every few months and we as customers, will buy into the new phone. and complain about that phone till we near the end of that contract and buy into the net phone yet again. endless cycle to keep filling up verizons pockets. bottom line, they dont really care much what we want

we should send Verizon a mass email bomb. if enough of the members did it and reported simular issues it would eventually get to the higher-ups

The membership has the ability very simply to dial 611.  Inform  the CSR you get on the phone politely and tactfully that you are a customer..that is contrary to one opinion important.  Retention of customers is critical to any business.  It costs them far less to retain a customer than to obtain a new one.  Let them know that you have the Dare and you have SPECIFIC issues with the phone.  Let them kow what those specifics are.  Anecdotal evidence doesn't count for anything.  Anything that starts out "I have heard, or I believe" is discounted.  Let them know politely, tactfully that you are one of a group of 6,000 as that is important to them.  An absolute must is no shouting, cursing, etc.  That immediately lowers your credibility to near zero.

Yes, we are individually a drop in the bucket but if we act in concert change can happen.

My personal opinion is yes, the Dare is awesome and yes Verizon's network is superior. Verizon however only has us for 2 years, well less for most of us. In that two years, other companies have plenty of time to update their networks and I honestly believe will surpass Verizon in that time frame. If verizon does not do something soon about their nickel and diming for apps and also get some better phones, they will have serious issues. Verizon can not compare to an iphone, or HTC Dream(soon to come) if the providers of those phones better their networks.

Noting the many people on these forums that cannot properly spell "the" and "that", or grasp the use of punctuation, I imagine some interesting calls to VZW! All it takes is one "yo, I'm in da dare army! We want dis phone fixded or else. FA1SGL said I should call you." to discredit the entire community.

FA1SGL,
First, I am completely unaware of Version 5 Software for the Dare.  In fact, I just returned my DARE last week because of an unacceptable "bug" and was informed both by Verizon and LG that there is no software or firmware update for the DARE.  So, I'm a bit confused about what you are referring to.

The bug you are referring to is not one that I had yet discovered.  I'm betting though that Verizon will just blow you off because they don't consider it to be of any real consequence.  Why do I say that?  Because, the bug I found which caused me to return my DARE was treated exactly that way.  What bug is that?  THE BUG IN THE MUSIC PLAYER WHICH CAUSES IT TO PLAY ONLY THE FIRST 250 SONGS OR SO WHEN IN SHUFFLE MODE.  This bug has been confirmed to exist in EVERY LG DARE ON THE MARKET TO DATE!

While that may not be a major issue for some folks, it was for me.  The DARE is advertised as "also an MP3 player", but with that kind of a bug....no way!!  Out of more than a 1000 songs on my 8gb card, all I could ever hear were the first 250 or so.  Ridiculous!

And even more ridiculous...the comment I got from Tech Support at LG...."Yeah, but many of the MP3 players on the market are like that".  what the hay!  Even my 12yr old son's freebie, cheapie MP3 player can shuffle through songs properly.

I've been a customer of Verizon for almost 8yrs and I've always been happy.  But lately, I feel like an unpaid beta tester for them that gets scorned when you bring a problem to their attention.

EXAMPLES

VERIZON XV6800....locks up often, ActiveSync program turns on by itself, and the one that finally made me return it - THE MMS NOTIFICATION LIGHT IS DISABLED.  Verizon claimed that they had no knowledge of that problem, even though it was confirmed by their authorized store that every 6800 had that bug.  UTStarcomm(the manufacturer) told me, "that's the way Verizon told us to build it, and that's the way we built it!  Have a nice day.

When I returned the XV6800, Verizon tech support assured me that the bug would be fixed in the next update.  WRONG!!!  Verizon and UTStarcomm released the XV6900 with the very same bug in it as well.  Unbelievable!!

- SAMSUNG GLYDE.... forget it, so many bugs it would take forever to list.
- LG DARE....well, I've already told you about that bug.

You want to REALLY know just how much Verizon values you as a customer???  Well, get ready for this one.

When I returned the LG DARE and thought about trying a BlackBerry, Verizon told me....

THEY WERE NOT GOING TO ALLOW A RENEWAL OF MY NEW EVERY TWO AND WOULD ONLY ALLOW ME A ONE TIME DISCOUNT TOWARDS ANOTHER PHONE!!!  After over an hour on the phone with a "supervisor", they agreed only to renew my New Every Two.  Uhh, sort of sounds like the same thing to me.  A discount towards another phone and that's it.  If it has a bug in it that is unsatisfactory to you....TOUGH LUCK!!

I could go on and on about the nonsense I've had with Verizon phones since January.  But the point I'm trying to make here is that, Verizon does not care about any bug or glitch you find in one or more of their phones.  Their phone warranty is clear.  The warranty applies ONLY to a defect which renders the phone USELESS.

The XV6800 MMS Notification bug and the LG Dare Music Player bugs that I found does not constitute a "useless phone".  However, what those bugs, the one you found and the many others that have been found and reported by other Verizon customers definitely does constitute is, A COMPLETELY DYSFUNCTIONAL QUALITY CONTROL SYSTEM!!

I'm just another Verizon "mushroom" wishing you luck on your efforts.

PinzPilot - you may not want hear this, but your bug has been reportedly been fixed with the version 5 update!!  So you may want to consider getting the Dare.

To me shuffle has never been an issue.  So it plays the tracks in random order...no big deal or deal breaker for me.

Far more important is getting them in proper track order...the alphabetical listing is insane...

This update, whatever, it does, or does not do is out in the field.  I wonder from another poster what the "secret" areas of the upgrade are.  That is, for me, a deal breaker.  If they are changing something on the phone that they want to keep closehold on and not inform me, the consumer about, I will forego getting it.

I realize this is a little off-topic for the thread, but how would a user know about the v05 update if they weren't reading this or a similar forum? Does verizon typically send a text msg or other notice? Maybe that should be listed as a "bug" - lack of OTA or other notice of new software.... (stretching to get back on topic...)
