Introduction...

To keep the forum running smoothly, all members must abide by a simple set of rules. They are fairly common sense, but we encourage all members to read these rules before signing up for the forum:

Pre-Post Checklist...

Please read the “Forum Rules” below before posting.

  • Please Search the forums before posting a new question - There is a Search feature available that will answer most of your questions and it is suggested that you research your problem first.  A lot of the most common questions that people have when they first get their Dare can usually be found by a simple search of the forum.

  • Keep your posts in the correct forum - If you still haven't found the answer to your question, post it and it the Dare community will help you out. There are specific places for different types of posts. Please keep them in the appropriate forum. A lot of the moderators’ time is spent moving posts to where they belong and this would save a lot of time. We would also ask that you only post your question or comment in one forum. Duplicate posts cause confusion and keeping a topic in one place is just easier to follow.

Respect the thread starter by keeping threads on-topic. While conversations in General Discussion can drift (as normal conversations often do), severe deviation from the original topic will be noted by a moderator (or the thread starter). If your topic is completely different, please feel free to post in an existing thread dealing with that topic or start a new thread.

  • Stay Civil - These forums are a fun place to be and that is because of the people that are here. Please refrain from vulgar language and personally attacking other members. Pornography has no place on this site so keep it out of your posts, links, and sigs. You are more than welcome to post your opinions (good or bad) about the program, but let's try to keep it friendly.

Board Policies...

The following is a list of policies that all forum members must follow if they wish to post. If you have any questions after reading them, please contact a Moderator or Admin.

  • Warez - No requests for warez or links to warez will be tolerated on the forums. Zero tolerance will be given to people breaking this rule. One time and you are gone.

  • Etiquette - Respect your fellow members by treating them with courtesy (especially if you disagree with them). Avoid the use of foul language, flaming members, discrimination and spam. If you choose not to follow the etiquette rules/guidelines, your posts may be edited or simply closed with warnings by the moderators. If warnings are not followed, it could lead to a permanent ban depending on the severity.

  • Please do not post in CAPS, bold, italics, color or any other font formatting except for emphasis of an occasional word or phrase. It can be difficult to read.

  • The use of foul language is offensive and will not be tolerated. While people under 13 cannot join the forum, there is the chance that underage people will still wish to view the information on the boards.

  • Avoid direct insults to any member of the forums. Everyone should be treated with the same degree of respect. The goal should be to give constructive criticism with evidence to back up your opinions while using common sense, respect, and courtesy. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

  • While forums are meant for debate, flaming or forcing your opinions on other members without regard to their feelings is uncalled for. This does not mean that you can't post sensitive issues or get into heated debates; it just means you have to use some common sense and courtesy when posting your opinions/views/debates. People intentionally posting to create flame wars will be dealt with by the moderators or administrators.

  • Do not post in a thread until you have read through all of the posts so that you do not post duplicate information. This will also help ensure that you don’t ask a question which has already been answered in the thread.

  • Spamming is considered repeating your comments, criticism, and arguments several times and in more than one post. Advertising your site, program or skin once is fine, but if you are repeatedly telling people to go check out your creation without adding anything useful to the thread, it will be considered spam. If you make posts that are obviously just to get your post count up , your post count may be reduced.

  • Discrimination against race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or of any other kind will not be tolerated on this forum.

  • Issues that members feel are too sensitive or inappropriate should not, and will not be discussed here. If any issue is posted that the moderator/admin feels is not appropriate for this forum or if the general consensus among board members is that the topic is too sensitive, the topic will be deleted with or without explanation.

  • Keep all discussion on-topic. While conversations may drift, blatant thread-jacking won't be tolerated. Topic is at the discretion of the thread originator and the staff. The choice to ignore warnings regarding topic may result in the thread being locked, posts being edited, banning, or all of the above.

Signatures...

  • Due to complaints about signature length and content, we have chosen to adopt the following guidelines for signatures. A Moderator will review any material that generates a complaint.

  • All sigs must fit within a 400x100 pixel-sized box.

  • No flashing or annoying animation (annoying will be determined by the number of complaints your sig gets)

  • No porn or foul language

  • No offensive content (offensive is defined as anything that generates a complaint and can range from porn to preaching)

  • No links to warez or illegal materials

  • No links to any site for "points". No blind links to generate income.

  • No links to viruses, fake viruses, or anything which could be of a violent nature to anyone’s PC

Thread Naming...

  • Please inform everyone by posting what the thread is about in the thread title.

  • Do not trick people into viewing a thread they do not want to view.

  • Titles of the thread MUST actually be descriptive of the contents.

Linking...

  • When linking to another site in a thread, be sure it does not link to any illegal content (i.e. warez, MP3, ISO, or any other illegal content/sites related to this material).

  • No links to any site for "points".

  • No blind links to generate income.

  • If you wish to link to a site you wish to promote, this is fine so long as it adheres to the previously mentioned restrictions.

Privacy...

Do not post information not meant to be public, such as email, pictures, phone numbers, instant messenger logs, or anything else containing sensitive information.

Polls...

  • Polls are restricted to the General Discussion forum.

  • Polls posted in other forums will either be locked or deleted.

  • Repeated posting of the poll will be treated as spam.

Attachments...

  • No posting of offensive or vulgar attachments.

  • For screenshots, try to black out personal information where possible.

Correct Forum...

  • Posting in the correct forum is vital for a more direct response.

  • Wrongly posted posts will be moved when possible, but may also be locked or deleted with or without warning by Moderators.

Announcements and Sticky Threads...

  • There are a number of announcements and sticky threads placed at the top of each forum.

  • Please read them before posting. These threads contain valuable information and may answer your question.

Searching...

  • A Search function is provided for the forums.

  • Before posting a question, please search for the answer to your question.

Locking/Editing/Deleting/Merging Posts...

  • If your post has been locked, edited, deleted, or merged there was a reason behind the change.

  • If you choose to flame the Moderator for making a change to your post or thread, you may be warned or banned, depending on your posting history.

Your Account...

  • Do not let anyone else use your account. If more than one person uses the same computer, each person needs to have his or her own account.

  • Do not register member name that contains profanity, obscene or sensitive terms.

  • Also, do not include any profanity or other material not suited to the forum in your profile. This includes pornography, warez, mp3 or other illegal content.

Duplicate Registrations...

  • We have a very strict policy regarding individual users registering one and only one account on this forum. The reason for this is simple - a user with more than one account usually isn't up to anything very good. If a user is found to have registered more than one account, the last one registered will be terminated and the user will be warned. Any further attempts to register another alias will lead to a permanent ban.

  • If a user is already banned when trying to register another account, that person will be banned for life and will have their actions reported to their ISP.

Moderators and Admins...

  • Moderators are chosen by the Admins, no application to become a Moderator will be read/acknowledged.

  • Their duties include keeping the peace as well as enforcing these policies.

Punishments (Warnings and Bans)...

  • If any user does not follow the policies we’ve outlined, action will have to be taken by either the Moderators or the Administrators.

  • The first step will be a warning.

  • A warning (which will include the reason for the warning) may be a reply in the offending thread, an email to the user or a private message to the user.

  • If after the warning there is another problem, a ban will have to be enforced.

  • If you try to circumvent the ban, your actions will be reported to your ISP.

  • If you choose to register a new alias after being banned, you will be banned again and your actions will be reported to your ISP.

  • If you post on behalf of someone who has been banned, you will receive a warning.

  • If you continue posting for a banned member after being warned, you will be banned as well.

Thank you for reading our policies.  Policies are subject to change by Moderators and Administrators as deemed necessary.

Wow - I can't flam, force my opinions on members, criticize, cause arguments, discriminate, use foul language and be offensive.  What a coincidence.  My wife says the same thing to me when the in-laws come over for dinner!  Isn't it amazing you have to remind members to just be polite?

Yes it is. One would think that all members would know how to behave, but that is just not the case. Even with the rules in place, there will of course still be members who need reminding. Hopefully these rules will limit those instances.

I've been trained to behave....  Huh?

I find it funny how many people lose all inhibitions and common sense in a public forum when hiding behind the anonymity provided by the internet. I try my best at conversing online as I would standing in front of you. If I ever forget to do this I sure hope someone reminds me...

As a clock-maker on this forum, I must stress that the use of any file presented (.swf flash clock file or other), and the required use of BitPim to install on one's phone, is without recourse, is at one's own risk and that the providers of these files are making no guarantees of suitability and/or subsequent damages, etc, etc. - Simply put: download, install and use these flash clocks solely at your own risk.

Re: "New Rules" I would just comment that for folks new to the Forum World there are minefields
that don't have warning signs. I for one am glad that Corsairkid posted an update. I sense sometimes that the more experienced and skilled members forget what it's like to be a newbie on the website let alone new to Forums . Having followed the search rules I would like to believe there are no dumb questions. The site is a great learning tool. Consider it Dare University. I bet
VZW does.    harley34

As I was reading through the rules for posting, I came to the paragraph about linking and noticed that something is missing, pornography. I am assuming that it is not permissable to post links to pornographic sites, but it should be listed. Or did I miss it in some other thread? If I did, I'm sorry.

I feel that this site is an EXCELLENT learn tool and should stay that way. If people want porn, let them go  somewhere else to get it.

Will get with the other Admin and staff and draft up a specific porn prohibition.  As you are fairly new, I will let you know if and when you come across "porn" spam immediately go to the homepage and look for a moderator.

Staff are color coded:  Admin Red, Global Mods Purple, Mods Blue

Click on a name and send a PM giving the porn spam url.  We take immediate removal and ban action.

Thanks for the info. I just think that we need to keep this site clean for everyone to enjoy. This site is now probably the one I visit the most, almost daily.

I know the rules are a bit long, so I did a ctrl+F search for "porn" and found it mentioned a couple times

"Pornography has no place on this site so keep it out of your posts, links, and sigs. "

So yes, it is mentioned in the rules. We take pride in keeping this forum as well run and enjoyable for all users as possible. Thank you for your concern, and we are glad you enjoy the site!

The other option you would have is to use the "Report to Moderator" link at the bottom of all posts. This sends an e-mail directly to us with a link to the reported thread.
This may not be as good as method as FA1SGL suggested (I know I don't check my e-mail as much as my PM's here lol) but it is another option for you if by chance you don't see a mod online
