phenomenal forum - there is enough info here to keep you busy for months (not to mention its ever changing) and of course the off topic lounge forum is highly entertaining

As we receive other upgrades it will continue.  It is the nature of the beast as one thing is corrected another is corrupted.  For the life cycle of the phone there will always be newbies knocking at the door....

I will say when I first came to this forum it was a lot to absorb. It was a big help though it introducing me to things like BitPim and showed me a lot of shortcuts/tips I never knew about the phone.
My only complaint is this, and please accept this as constructive criticism, it's not meant to offend anyone.

One word that only applies to some (let me explain): moderators  Shocked I know I know..hold on..

When I first started searching for solutions to my problem (yes, I did use the search function before posting) I found numerous threads that were locked by moderators and all they stated was "use the search function" over and over. I understand that people just come on here all the time and post stupid stuff like "how do I text" etc. etc, and that is no doubt frustrating and clogs the forum up, but it's very intimidating being new to the forum, and actually being afraid to make a new post because you're not sure if you're going to be attacked by the mod's or not because the question has been answered before (I saw some fairly rude posts by mods).

Now..that being said, to back my statement up, I'll use this post:
http://www.lg-dare.com/index.php?topic=8639.msg71464#msg71464
Simple question..asked a lot I'm sure, but the mod actually suggested something to search, (which is extremely helpful I think, cudos to the mod who suggested it)...however he suggested searching "capacidance"...now I consider myself moderate in the technical lingo world and I do consider myself pretty good with computers/technology, however I have no clue what this word means, nor would I know to search for it if I was looking for the answer to this question. It's good the first mod suggested it, but then the second mod came along and locked the thread just saying it has been discussed before and use the search.

My entire point of raising this is just to lighten up a bit? I know that running a forum isn't easy (I've ran one in the past, albeit not as large as this) and I totally understand that it's frustrating hearing the same old novice questions over and over from people who only have 1 post, but just know its intimidating to new people to the forum, who may be hesitant to post because we're not sure if we've searched as far as we should have before posting. Mod's you've been around since the beginning, so you know this forum and its post better then anyone, but us newbies may not always know what to search to find our answers.
Again, please don't take this to heart...I wanted to just throw it out there as a fairly new person as constructive criticism...and I will be sticking around here, I rather enjoy it once I got past the original hesitation  Grin FYI - I voted it a 4  Wink

Sisk28 - the simple fact is most new members DON'T use the search feature before posting a question.  If we allowed every redundant thread then it would be impossible to actually use the search feature.  Because then you would have to wade through 500 threads asking "how do I load xyz onto my phone?"  So while you may not like the way we respond to redundant questions, thats the way it has to be done.

As far as your example, the OP didn't have to use the term "capacidance".  A search for touchscreen responsive would have resulted in numerous hits.  And the OP used both of those terms in his post, so its not like we're asking him to use terms he's unfamiliar with.

I think the problem is that people expect to be spoon-fed the answers to their questions.  They don't want to spend their precious time searching for the answers themself.

Simple question..asked a lot I'm sure, but the mod actually suggested something to search, (which is extremely helpful I think, cudos to the mod who suggested it)...however he suggested searching "capacidance"capacitance...now I consider myself moderate in the technical lingo world and I do consider myself pretty good with computers/technology, however I have no clue what this word means, nor would I know to search for it if I was looking for the answer to this question. In my post I specified precisely how to use it in a search.  On every page of this forum is a search box.  If you search from the board you are in.  it only searches that board, so I specifically said search from the homepage.  The forum search box notwithstanding Google is a pretty darn good search engine.

This is much like the find function in a .pdf or word document.  It searches from where you are at down and you have to go to the top of the document to search the entire document.  The forum in its way is no different.

As in any search routine regardless of whether or not it is within a forum or Google you have to determine what you are searching for and use the most logical inclusive term and narrow in from there based upon the hits you receive.

I get that...I did state that, talking about first timers coming on here and not searching, but do you at all see where I'm coming from in my post?

And FA, I said I wanted to give you cudos, since you did explain that very well, which is much better then the majority of mod posts just stating 'use the search feature', so I wasn't using that post as an example against you, my point was the second mod came along and locked it stating it was already discussed and that was it, and it probably would have been locked even if you hadn't have posted the thing to search.
Anywho...I'm probably just going to get post after post causing me to lose this discussion...I was just giving some constructive criticism..but I'll give up while I'm ahead. Thanks for your replies guys Smiley

So what would you suggest we do?  Allow folks to create new threads for topics which has been discussed numerous times?  Or waste our time to answer the question again even though it was answered previously?

Or maybe we should just get more aggressive and just delete redundant threads altogether?

I really would like to hear your input.  So don't "give up" on this discussion.  Help us come up with a better solution.

Thanks DDD for your reply. I was half debating deleting my account and not coming back after seeing those first two replies because that was exactly what I was talking about. I was offering come very friendly and polite constructive criticism and I was (from my eyes) attacked like I was dissing the mods or attacking them.
As for what you should do...let me sleep on it (it's pretty late here)...I have a few ideas, but I'll get back to you on it. My main point was just to watch the way you come off to new members, even if they are redundant posts....its pretty intimidating. Thanks again DDD, appreciate you wanting to hear what I say Cheesy

Sisk, I too want to hear what you have to say. It is hard to convey the tone of a response through text, so I apologize if you feel the staff members were attacking you. I assure you it wasn't so. We do appreciate constructive criticism, and look forward to hearing your ideas.
