upon finding this site. i spent atleast a whole day searching, reading FAQ's, sometimes 2 pr three times. (i've done the noob thing) i learned my lesson long time ago. i found out some many things in that first day, it was crazy. even the bitpim stuff. i read it so many times on here, i knew what to when i finally did download it and use it weeks later without going back and reading.

Sisk, I too want to hear what you have to say. It is hard to convey the tone of a response through text, so I apologize if you feel the staff members were attacking you. I assure you it wasn't so. We do appreciate constructive criticism, and look forward to hearing your ideas.

My suggestion which might help is (if this is possible, I'm not sure with the coding on the forum) would be to move the search box front and centre? I didn't have a problem finding it but I've read a few posts where people didn't even realize it being there up on the top right. If possible, what about moving it front and centre, maybe between the banner and the start of the forum list? This may not help, but atleast then it's in your face when you first start.
Beyond that I completely understand what you guys are saying, it's hard when you get post after post of novice ppl who aren't taking the time to search before posting their questions, and prefer to be spoon fed the answer. My whole original reason for posting this (it may have come off wrong, which is my fault) was just to be mindful of the tone of posts (again, maybe I'm just a bad judge of tone) because being a first timer here and reading some of the posts like I said it was very intimidating posting my first post. I kept thinking "Well, have I used the search as much as I should have, have I spend the time searching, or am I going to get yelled at for posting a question that has already been asked!?" and to me, thats not good thoughts to be having as a first time poster lol.
Also, to back my original statement up, I'll refer to this poll of mine:

I stated in my first post that their was already a thread, AND I even linked to it along with stating the reason why I was posting again, but a mod was quick to jump on me and state that it was already being discussed, even thought I made it clear I had searched it before.
Maybe just an oversight on the mod's part, and again this is not a person attack towards any of these mod's posts I'm linking too (thats why I'm not posting names, I honestly haven't even looked at the names, I just know they're mod's) but it seems like they were so quick to see the topic and just blast me for it having already posted.
Hope you see where I'm coming from here...not meant to be a bad post, just a discussion.

I meant to add too about the search function, again, I'm not sure how much control you have over this stuff, but I know the search it specific to what board you're on. What about a drop down box allowing you to choose to search "all boards" or a specific board?

That's already there.  Use the search box (Above the buttons) and you search the board.  Use the search button and you are given more options to include board or all boards.  Check it out.

Yeah, I see that search button now. My suggestion was just making the drop-down menu on all the pages, not just be using the search button. And moving the search box down front and centre on the main page when you first log on. Again, probably not possible due to the coding on the site, but just a suggestion .
I do appreciate all the mod's responding here wanting to hear my input, I never meant to come off as if I was attacking mod's...it was just something I noticed being a newbie around here

Re: Rate This Forum--I voted for #4. My personal vote is #5. Let me explain. This forum is my first. I don't have the experience with other forums to make a fair comparison. My own experiences with the Forum have been great. The "Newbie condition" did take time to settle out.
I believe whether a person is new to forums or comes with experiences, the technical level of the population  is high. For the "Newbie" this can be overwhelming at first. Regarding the search function, there is the continuing need to emphasize it's use. I would encourage new members to follow EG White's approach-searching and reading FAQ's. harley34

The mod has been installed. Now when you want to search using the search BAR, not TAB, you have the drop down option box to search within the topic, board, or entire forum.

It's a great site for information about the Dare. The monitors are a little authoritarian.  But, the content of the site makes it worth it!
