help me please :'(

so....yesterday i dropped my phone while eating drumsticks in kfc.
at first i was like whatever...but then......
whenever i start my phone, the verizon wireless logo keeps flashing and never goes to the home screen.

and then i was like whatever i'll just get another one, BUT THEN i realized i didn't sign up for the
backup assistance..

i tried bitpim to see if i can get my contacts but unfortunately it won't even connect
says it failed or something

my question is, how can i get my contacts back?
can i get it back if i call verizon? does that cost money?
