- LINK REMOVED, SEE EDIT -

I don't have my dare yet, could someone try viewing this .MP4 file for me and letting me know if it works? I sized it at 400x240 so it should be the closest thing to fullscreen yet.

Edit: Was told that one didn't fill the whole screen, here's another to test:

OK, so what is the max resolution that you can size a video to? Pictures do use the full 400x240. What is the max video size available?

Unfortunately the max res is 320x240, 4:3 aspect ratio.

320 x 240 works great. What's the maximum bit rate the phone can handle?

As a test using Premiere Elements, I converted one of my wide screen home videos to 320x180, MainConcept H.264 codec (mp4) at a constant bit rate of 1 Mbps.  The video played back fine on the Dare.  Although for the resolution I used, that's probably a bit high.  I really can't tell the difference between 1 Mbps and 500 kbps, but it's a slow moving video so having a high bit rate isn't important.

One thing I did notice is that a thumbnail doesn't appear in the video list when using H264.  Does anyone else noticed the same thing?  If I convert to 3gp (H.263) I see the thumbnail just fine.  Any ideas?

I use a mp4 converter to convert my movies without any setting adjustments and it comes out fine. I use the same program for my ipod video. The dare won't allow full screen for some reason but I can still watch music video's and movies without any adjustments.

Impossible.  The Dare does not play full screen video.   There will always be a black border on the left/right edges.
