Thought I might share the news story from home. There is currently a massive brush fire burning out of control in my city, about 15min from my place. It's across the harbour though, so I'll be safe. Some of the pictures are amazing though, as you could see the flames from far far away.

By the way - these pictures are somewhat deceiving. The city isn't actually on fire as it looks like it is. The forest fire is just outside of the city, but it's still fairly close.

Living in California where fires are endemic especially in Southern California I can fully understand what you are going through.

Very true. We're becoming more accustom to them. There was an even bigger one last year, about 20min outside of the city right where my parents live. The fire came within a KM of their house, so that was somewhat scary. If the fire had of hopped the lake any sooner, their entire subdivision would have been destroyed.
They were saying on the news last night that the ~10 homes that were destroyed were in the 600,000-700,000$ range...which around here is a VERY nice house.

Before the collapse of the housing market along with everything else, those prices might have gotten you a fixer upper down in Southern California...back east in that price range you get land plus house plus a pool...amazing how indebted people out here would get themselves for next to nothing....
