I've completely given up trying to figure out Verizon's mindset when it comes to apps.

If I was a little more jaded I would think Verizon is thumbing their nose at us.  I mean, take the Wallpapers Unlimited app as an example.  $3.99 a month to download unlimited wallpapers.  WHAT?!?  I can do that myself absolutely free.  If that was the only app like that I wouldn't be too upset.  But there are twelve (12!!) others just like it.

We can't get ESPN MVP or Visual Voicemail but we can get 13 wallpaper apps!!

Verizon released yet another dumb ass app for the Dare.

ELLE Astrology:  "ELLE magazine brings to you a feature packed mobile astrology application with daily fresh horoscopes for all zodiac signs, weekly and monthly forecasts, love chart compatibility, weekly love and career meters, birthday numerology and astrologer advice column. You can submit questions for the astrologer from the application itself."
Subscription: $3.49

COME ON VERIZON!! At least we got ESPN Mvp so i'm content with that

Rumored new apps...
Daily Fortune Cookie $4.99
Altimeter (Feet above or below sea level) $6.99
Mother Joke Generator $4.99
Brew Brick (for those not so good with BitPim) $3.99

I can't believe people are complaining about these apps.  This is great stuff.

Take into account the cellphone demographic. Teenagers are the most heavily influenced group. Their confidence issues and desire to be cool or better than everyone dictates they should have a cool new phone. Parents readily buy them for them. Based on our site poll, 35.5% of users on this site are under the age of 21. I'm not surprised apps are targeted at the younger crowd, they probably sold many subscriptions on their other phones as well. I could imagine preteen girls just eating this stuff up.

Specialty wallpapers are a service. Not one that I would take advantage of, but somebody might. Depending on what style you want, you've got 12 to choose from.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned/asked but.... verizon supposedly released or is releasing the some kind of app program for smart phones exclusively. If this app program is targeting the iphone community with more usefull apps, why cant the dare, with multimedia capabilities, not be able to share in this new app store idea? I really do like this phone but it seems that they are trying to force us into other smart phones like the samsung omnia. Sorry but an extra $50 for a data plan is just plan wrong. Maybe there trying to get more people to switch to at&t for the iphone? But hey some of us, including me, dont like the iphone. In closing I think that these lack of apps has to do with the phone showing its age, all 6 months, therefore showing us that verizon wants us to buy a new phone and extend the contract more. But this is just my feeling for the time being. Sorry for the runon sentence.

It is not the "age" as you put it, it is BREW.  BREW does not lend itself to ease of development of apps.  You have a license to get from Qualcomm, then you have to develop the app across cellular manufacturers features (touch or traditional) and then sell the idea to Verizon.
