Touch screen is unresponsive

New to this forum, but I've already done a little work on my Dare...

About two months ago, my LG Dare was in my pocket as I was working in the rain. Assumedly, the water soaked through my pants and shorted something in the phone. The display still looks excellent, and the external call/clear/end/lock/volume buttons all work just fine. However, the touch screen itself has become completely unresponsive. After removing the battery for a few hours and resetting the phone, the touch screen would respond again, but only for 20-30 seconds. After this happened a few times, it just stopped responding completely. I have purchased a new screen/digitizer, replaced it, but all of the symptoms remain as they were before the replacement.

I've moved on to an LG Cosmos Touch, but I sorely miss my Dare and am trying to inexpensively bring it back to life. If anyone has any other ideas, please enlighten me. I suppose at this point that something may be wrong with the motherboard or... something. Help!

I'm unable to get to the menu. I can press the external unlock button, but since the touchscreen is completely unresponsive, it is impossible to reach any menus, dial any numbers, etc.
