Yes.. I did search the forum before posting this question. Found plenty of hints and implied solutions but no definitive answer.

Heres the deal; I carry my Dare in my pocket [gasp]... As reported by others, the problem is when the phone accidently dials or texts someone while in my pocket.

NET: I want to disable the unlock button on the touch screen.

STOP: Please don't tell me to use the Lock Key on the left side of the device to lock or unlock the touch screen. Thats not what I'm asking to do. What I want to do is remove-disable-delete or kill the unlock button feature on the touch screen.

When I searched the forum I found threads where others are more or less asking the same question.  The closest I came to an answer was when someone responded:

"I think there is a way to remove that touch to unlock on the touch screen by getting into the service menu. but im not too sure how to do it."

The next response stated: "yea thats fix has already been posted"

Another rsponse... "someone posted how to do that just type it in the search bar "

Well... I tried various search words and questions and came up empty. If someone would just post the steps, or provide a link to the steps that have already been posted I'll be one of the first to respond with how lame I am for not being able to find it on my own.  :Smiley

There is NO way to disable the touch screen unlock button which is your problem by keeping the phone in your pocket.

If one goes into the service menu as has been reported the success is anecdotal with more folks reporting how they have gotten into trouble venturing where it was never meant for the customer/consumer to have access.

The primary service menu thread:

Great... Thanks for the reply. At least now I can give up on trying to find a way to disable it.

I previously found the thread on accessing the the service menu, as well as reading several horror stories from people bricking their phone by playing with the service menu settings.  I'd be willing to take the risk if some had documented the step by step process... but if its never been done... I'm certainly not going to adopt the trial and error method of changing things in the service menu.

I may not understand what your trying to do although, If your not wanting to unlock the screen every time you pick the thing up thats easy. Once again forgive me if I don't understand what your tryin to accomplish. To set the lock to OFF. Main Menu, Tools and Settings, Touch settings, Auto Lock, On or Off??

Once yet again, I am sorryif this isn't what your looking for..

What about password lock on startup? Didn't you suggest that once FA1SGL?

Otherwise, get a case. Cases fit flush with the hardkeys so you don't accidently hit them while the phone is in your pocket.

Not really. Those instructions make the screen non auto lock. The guy wants it so his phone WILL NOT unlock by pressing the unlock button on the screen. He wants to be able to have his phone locked in his pocket without it being accidentally unlocked by pressing the button on the screen.

This would be great... if cases prevented the touch screen from being pressed. Every case out there for the Dare leaves the touch screen unprotected (and I'm not talking about those flimsy thin plastic screen covers and cases, because they still DO enable touch screen). If they made a case which covered the screen with a clear but hard cover, and left the answer/hangup buttons still available, we could answer phone calls and lock/unlock with the outer buttons... without having to access the touch screen and worry about our screen unlocking and doing weird things. Unfortunately, this kind of case does not exist.

The WORST thing that happens to me is when I'm sitting in class and my phone unlocks itself and starts playing my MP3s. UGH!
