I've been wondering. If I bought a regular Micro B USB cable would I be able to use it to ttransfer stuff to and from my Dare and to charge? Like the included LG Cable?

The simple answer is yes but there are a few things you need to be sure of since most generic (non-OEM) cables do not support charging.  One is that the connector is wired for the Dare, second is that it is stated for use for both power and data transfer. They will all transfer data but not all work for charging.

So, when you buy it make sure they say it is for the Dare and will do both data and charging.

There are no such things as "Dare Specific" cables, microSD cards or chargers.  As long as all the wires are there, it will work.  I have received 2 PM in the last week from people asking similar questions, and my response in both situations was that anyone who claims their products are "Dare Approved," or "Dare Certified," or "Dare Specific," is "Dare I say," ripping you off!

Your right, there are no such thing as Dare specific cables, chargers, etc.  However from my "personal experience" they will not all work.

I have returned 2 wall chargers and 1 cable from eBay stores that claimed to work on the Dare and did not.  Both chargers got the "unauthorized" message on the phone.  The cable would not charge but did data fine. One store sent me a replacement charger that had a different part number and it worked.

I also did not say "Dare specific", I said "Work on the Dare" which is a big difference in wording.

My point was that all cables will work for data but not all work for charging.

Hm. I was going to say "No", a micro USB cable wouldn't work, because it doesn't fit my port on the side of the Dare.  It seems to be a bit slimmer, and more pointy....?

NilSe is correct. Not all cables will work. I forgot my USB cable that came with my phone one night and tried to charge my phone with a different one. Phone said it was not an authorized cable. Data transfer was fine. But it certainly did not charge,

I agree, that not all cables will work.  All the wires must be there.  But there is no such thing as "Dare Only" cables.  These aren't inkjet cartridges, with hidden microchips Grin

Where in any of the above posts did anyone say that there is a "Dare Only" cable?

All that was ever said by me or anyone else was that you need to make sure it will "work on the Dare" since not all do.

It takes a woman to put words in a mans post. I'm sure he meant make sure it is compatible with the Dare. He didn't say "make sure it is for the Dare only"

How is the guy on eBay supposed to know if it is compatible with the Dare?  To the seller, it's "just a cable."  If the object is to save money, then what you're looking for said cable, "with all the wires, for both data and power."

In other words, by looking specifically for a seller who claims (or at least pretends to claim that) it works with the Dare, you are almost certainly going to pay a higher price.  Just look for cables that "have all the wires, for both data and power."

^^I agree. Ebayers will tell you it's compatible with the Lunar Rover's charging port. On this I'd just hit up Best Buy. Better yet, CompUSA Online. One more would be cellphoneshop.net or com.

Same problem here.  I tried three different ones, and none fit the port.  Anyone know why this is happening?
